When Motherhood begins

OH MY GOODNESS!!! You took the pregnancy test, and it was positive. WTF am I going to do? Is the dad going to stick around? Is he going to be happy? Will I be a great mother? Will my baby make it? WTF do I do, now? These are all questions that ran through my head the day I found out I was going to be a mother.

I think it tends to be a BIG debate on the question “WHEN DOES MOTHERHOOD BEGIN”. I’m going to plead my case on this stance. What does motherhood mean to you? To me, motherhood is being overwhelmed with the love and joy of being a mom as well as the unwavering feeling of love you have for this being. With that being said – motherhood does not start the day you give birth but when you first find out this little burst of love has planted in your womb.

The fact of when you found out you were pregnant, you stopped all the things that would hurt your child. You stopped drinking, smoking, being in environments that do not serve you, and started to look at your finances and relationships. All of this alone put you in the category of motherhood. You are showing your undying love for this “thing” in your womb that you have yet to see or hear, all because you know that you want greatness for them.

I love that we, as women, are able to have this undying love for out little ones that no other person can ever feel.  As much as we are a safe space for our kids, they are also a safe place for us – Without us even knowing. When we are loving on our little ones, we are in such a vulnerable state. Nothing else matters but showing this child that they are loved, important, special, and amazing.

What does motherhood mean to you?
